Classes at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are resuming on a modified schedule this week.

Thousands of students are returning to classes at a Parkland, Florida, high school on Wednesday for the first time since the Feb. 14 shooting in which 17 people died.

Classes at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are resuming on a modified schedule this week. School officials are making counselors available to all students and staff, and armed security guards will be on campus.

Teachers and staff were encouraged to return to campus as early as last Friday to start planning for the start of classes. They held a voluntary campus orientation for students and their parents on Sunday.

There is one part of the school's campus that won't reopen Wednesday, and that's the building where the shooting took place. State lawmakers already said they'd provide the necessary resources to tear the building down.
