WVIT reports a teacher nearby stayed with Sanchez until she was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police are looking into the motive the attack was set off after Sanchez turned down a prom proposal. WNBC reports the 16-year-old alleged attacker was immediately taken into custody and placed under suicide watch.

Police will not confirm whether the assault was a result of the prom dispute but say the suspect was immediately taken into custody and placed under suicide watch. It's also currently unclear why the suspect might have brought a knife to school. (Via WFSB)

The school was put on lockdown and prom was rescheduled. WFSB cites court officials who say the suspect will be charged with murder, but a state attorney will determine whether he'll be charged as an adult.
