Prosecutors are accusing a California man of murdering his son because his son was gay.

Shehada Khalil Issa was detained as a person of interest Tuesday after his wife and son were found dead at their North Hills home. Prosecutors now claim Issa fatally shot his son, Amir Issa, with a shotgun because of Amir's sexual orientation.

The District Attorney's office says Issa had argued with his son about his sexuality and made death threats in the past. An investigation into how Issa's wife died is still ongoing, and no charges have been filed.

According to reports, Issa claims he found his wife stabbed to death and was menaced by Amir with a knife. Neighbors told the Los Angeles Times that Amir and his parents had a troubled relationship. Police said his parents had been trying to evict him.

Issa is now being charged with premeditated murder and could face life in prison without parole if convicted.
