More Hearings Set For Former Chicago Officer Convicted Of Murder

Jason Van Dyke, the former Chicago police officer convicted of murdering teenager Laquan McDonald, will return to court in December. 

Van Dyke's defense attorneys filed requests Wednesday for his conviction to be thrown out and for a new trial to be held. A Chicago judge set a date of Dec. 14 for the defense to make oral arguments.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the judge is likely to reject the defense's argument, which is similar to the one it made during the initial trial. Van Dyke has yet to be sentenced for his convictions, which include second-degree murder and 16 counts of aggravated battery — for the 16 times he shot McDonald.
