Real estate heir Robert Durst will serve seven years and one month in prison on a weapons charge.

According to reports, a federal judge on Wednesday approved the sentence set out by a plea deal. Durst had pleaded guilty to owning a handgun, which is illegal because he's a felon.

Durst still faces a trial for the murder of his friend Susan Berman. Prosecutors say he killed her to prevent her from talking about the disappearance of his first wife.

The murder charge led to an HBO documentary about Durst.

"What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course," Durst said in the documentary.

It's unclear if prosecutors will be able to use recordings from the documentary against him.
