A grassroots political campaign in the nation's capital is seeking to reclassify naturally occurring psychedelic drugs as the lowest priority for law enforcement. The initiative would apply to psychedelic mushrooms, ayahuasca and plants containing mescalin such as peyote. It would not legalize the drugs for sale, as some states have done with cannabis, but would direct police not to prioritize making arrests for possession of the drugs.

(Updated 6/29/20 to reflect that Decriminalize Nature is seeking to decriminalize access to mescalin containing plants, not specifically peyote.)
