Education SecretaryBetsy DeVos said Monday her department is launching a Title IX investigation into how Michigan State University responded to sexual complaints against former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

She said the probe will focus on "systemic issues" tied to how the school handled "sexual incidents" involving Nassar.

Nassar was accused of sexually assaulting over 150 women and girls and was sentenced in January to 40 to 175 years in prison.

The Federal Student Aid team was already investigating MSU for the school's reporting of crimes committed on campus under the Clery Act.

Devos called Nassar's crimes "unimaginable."
