African slaves were first brought to America in 1619. Slavery officially ended in 1865, but its effects have rippled far past then. Today, more than ever, it's important slavery is taught in school to educate and inform students of the past.
Why Teaching Slavery in Classrooms Matters
On paper, slavery ends in 1865. So why do we still teach about it in classrooms? It's because that history should never repeat itself.
