Ex-Google and Facebook employees are banding together to spread a message about the negative effects of technology, especially on children.

They've started a multimillion-dollar campaign dubbed "Truth About Tech," backed by major television and internet providers and a nonprofit watchdog. The national initiative is modeled after successful anti-smoking campaigns and will include education in schools about the harmful effects of technology addiction.

The move comes as Facebook is overhauling its online experience, centered around social connectivity, amid a drop inplatform usage. Truth About Tech said it also plans to put pressure on Silicon Valley to make products less addictive, particularly for kids, and pursue lobbying for tech legislation.
