Families whose loved ones were killed or injured in the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, last year are suing the local school district, the sheriff's office and others for alleged negligence.

According to several reports, family members of more than a dozen Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School victims announced they were filing lawsuits in Florida state court Wednesday.

The suits reportedly claim officials didn't do enough to keep students and employees safe during the Feb. 2018 massacre, which left 17 people dead.

One parent told CNN, "To our family and to our son, this lawsuit will bring some accountability to the table."

A group of students filed a similar lawsuit against school officials and law enforcement last year. But a federal judge ended up dismissing that complaint.

As for these most recent lawsuits, the school district and the sheriff's office both declined to comment on any pending litigation.
