A Houston-area father thought he heard an intruder in his daughter's bedroom when he fatally shot a 17-year-old boy.

Fox News reports Johran McCormick was apparently dating the 16-year-old girl, who reportedly denied knowing the boy when her father caught the two together around 2:30 in the morning Thursday.

It's unclear whether the father will face charges — but the victim's mother is pushing for murder charges.

"He was my friend. I've known him since, like, middle school. We've always been close. He's a very outgoing person and so am I, so we kind of clicked when we met each other." (Via KTRK)

McCormick's funeral was held Sunday at a local church.
