The FBI has made some extensive changes to its public tip line system since the agency mishandled tips about the man who was later accused of killed more than a dozen people at a school in Parkland, Florida.
FBI officials detailed the changes in a letter to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission earlier this month.
According to the letter, the bureau has taken multiple steps to improve its Public Access Line, which receives thousands of calls every day from the public.
Those steps include hiring more staff for the FBI's tip centers, beefing up training for employees and utilizing new "speech-to-text" technology to identify key threat words used by a caller.
The FBI faced major backlash after the agency said it missed two separate tips about the Parkland shooting suspect. Seventeen people were killed and 17 others were injured in the February shooting.
