"The court finds the mitigation presented is not sufficiently substantial to call for leniency and that a natural life sentence is appropriate," Maricopa County Judge Sherry Stephens said.
Jodi Arias has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2008 murder of Travis Alexander.
Arias was convicted of the first-degree murder of her former boyfriend Alexander in 2013, but her sentencing was up in the air after a hung jury in May 2013 and then again in March of 2015.
"In my assessment, we are hung and additional time will not change this," Stephens said.
Alexander's body was found after he didn't show up for work. He was stabbed 27 times, his throat was slit and he was shot once. (Video via HLN)
Arias claimed she killed Alexander in self-defense, but the jury decided the killing was premeditated.
In this interview with KSAZ after her murder conviction in 2013, Arias said, "I believe death is the ultimate freedom," though she wavered on that statement later.
The death penalty was taken off the table when the jury failed to reach a decision in March.
