The U.S. Coast Guard recently seized millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs in international waters.

According to a statement from the agency, a Coast Guard crew offloaded more than 3,500 pounds of cocaine and 50 pounds of marijuana in Miami Beach Tuesday.

The narcotics were gathered off the coasts of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Aruba between late September to early October. In total, the haul is worth more than $47 million.

One Coast Guard official said the seizure "is a testament to the professional expertise and dedication of US law enforcement agencies and international partners working together to combat the flow of illicit drugs."

As the Miami Herald notes, the Coast Guard has increased enforcement to crack down on drug transit zones in the Caribbean Basin and Eastern Pacific Ocean. And the effort seems to be paying off.

Just last month, the agency seized nearly six tons of cocaine, worth an estimated $170 million.
