According to WNCN, officials say the crash occurred Sunday around 3 p.m. in Chatham County, North Carolina, after two vehicles collided head-on; one of the drivers involved was charged with driving left of center.

Neighbors in the area then responded quickly to try and rescue the people from the burning wreckage. Off-duty Army Capt. Steve Voglezon was also at the scene, and he didn't waste any time getting involved.

Voglezon is seen here pulling a man from one of the vehicles and dragging him out of harm's way after he reportedly used a fire extinguisher to break one of the car windows.

What's more, as ABC points out — he was wearing a Captain America shirt while carrying out this act of heroism.

The media quickly acknowledged his efforts, though the Army captain tried to downplay his role, saying it was a team effort and that he only did what he had to do.

"It wasn't just me. It was a whole team of good samaritans, some people with the fire, others helping carry them," Voglezon said.
