A Pennsylvania college student is in critical condition after being shot on campus Monday night, according to authorities.
"Police say a student was shot at Widener University in Chester, just before 9 last night. He was sitting in a parked car outside an athletic center when he was shot in the side." (Via WPMT)
The victim then reportedly called 911 himself to report the shooting. An ambulance arrived on the scene soon after and transported him to a nearby hospital. (Via WFQX)
The student's name has yet to be released, but a spokesperson for Crozer Chester Medical Center told NBC he was in critical condition Tuesday morning after undergoing surgery the night before.
According to Widener University's Facebook page, the victim's family has been notified and is with him at the hospital.
As of early Tuesday, police say they still haven't found the gunman, and they're warning students to stay inside while they continue their search for the suspect.
A spokesperson for the university wouldn't release the finer details of the investigation, but he did tell reporters, "All indications are this was not a random act of violence." (Via Fox News)
According to WTXF, both Chester police officers and campus safety officers are combing the campus and surrounding areas for the suspect. Police K-9s are also reportedly involved in the search.
Police believe the suspect is no longer roaming the university's campus, and classes are expected to resume Tuesday morning.
