The New York Times says police did not identify the man. He reportedly called 911 and admitted to shooting both his daughter and his dog before threatening to commit suicide.

When officers entered the home, they found a woman and a dog — both with gunshot wounds.

The woman was rushed to the hospital, but WPIX reports her father’s actions were fatal. "We've just learned the sad news that the 65 year old woman has died of her gunshot wounds."

The Wall Street Journal reports the dog, a Yorkshire Terrier, was taken to an ASPCA center for treatment. It is expected to survive.

New York Daily News spoke with a local man, who was shocked by the news. "I know the guy, everyone in the neighborhood knows him … He seemed like a normal guy, I see him going to the supermarket."

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive in the shootings.
