Special counsel Robert Mueller levied more charges against former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his business partner and campaign deputy Rick Gates.
The new charges accuse the two men of bank and tax fraud. The charges allege they understated their income on federal tax returns. Manafort is also charged with fraud surrounding three loans he took out for his homes.
The indictment does not reference anyone else on the Trump campaign, and the charges relate to events long before the 2016 presidential race.
The Daily Beast is also reporting Gates fired his lawyer, who was well-known for negotiating plea deals. Sources told the outlet Gates is not making a deal with Mueller. Both Gates and Manafort have pleaded not guilty.
