San Francisco is now the biggest city in the country to ban the sale of fur.
On Tuesday, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the ban, which applies to the sale, display and manufacturing of new fur apparel.
Animal rights activists applauded the move. But critics argue the ban will negatively impact retailers and small businesses in the area.
Two other California cities — West Hollywood and Berkeley — have already adopted similar bans. San Francisco's legislation goes into effect next year, but retailers have until January 2020 to sell existing inventory.
