The Senate passed a $1.1 trillion budget with plenty of support from both parties Thursday afternoon. It's the first bipartisan budget to pass through Congress since 1986.
“The budget plan funds the government through September and prevents deep cuts to the Pentagon and other federal agencies.” (Via News 12 Long Island)
It also prevents a government shutdown. Al Jazeera reports the bill is 1,500 pages and funds government agencies from NASA to the IRS. (Via C-SPAN)
“There’s so many details inside of this bill that people are still just learning about. Some senators and House members railed on the floor this week and said we wish we had more time. They were up against a deadline of tomorrow.” (Via Al Jazeera)
“The measure passed the House earlier this week with 300 votes in its favor.” (Via News Channel 8)
While the landmark bill is a sign of progress in a heavily divided Congress, The Washington Post points out Congress's approval rating is still near its all-time low.
The Senate's vote sent the bill to President Obama’s desk for his signature with a deadline of midnight Saturday.
