Suspect Arrested In Virginia Navy Base Stabbing

One Navy service member is in the hospital and another in custody after a stabbing took place outside a naval base in Virginia Friday.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilbur Harwell is accused of stabbing Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Powell multiple times following an argument at 8:30 a.m. near the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Powell is currently hospitalized and in critical condition. (Via WSLS)

Authorities locked down the naval center and the surrounding area to search for Harwell. Investigators eventually located Harwell at Virginia Beach, where he was arrested without incident. (Via WAVY)

The Virginian-Pilot reports Harwell worked as an electronics technician, and was in the process of leaving the Navy. A Navy spokesman told the outlet the two men knew each other, but did not comment further about their relationship.

According to their Facebook page, the lockdown over Naval Medical Center Portsmouth has been mostly lifted, although at least one building is still off-limits.
