Former President Donald Trump was targeted in an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Trump said a bullet struck the upper part of his right ear. It was the most serious assassination attempt on a current or former president since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981.

Efforts are underway to investigate the motive of the shooter, who was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The FBI believes Crooks acted alone.

President Biden ordered an independent review of national security at the Pennsylvania rally where the incident occurred. The president said the findings will be shared with the American public.
