President Donald Trump signed a proclamation Thursday marking Dec. 7 as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

"Today, our entire nation pauses to remember Pearl Harbor and the brave warriors who on that day stood tall and fought for America," Trump said.

Trump was joined by six Pearl Harbor veterans who he praised as heroes. The president also promised them his administration would build up the military.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the Japanese attack on the Pearl Harbor naval base, which killed more than 2,400 people. It was the inciting incident that got the U.S. into World War II. Thursday is the 76th anniversary of the attack.
