The Catholic Church has removed Cardinal Theodore McCarrick from public ministry.
McCarrick was accused of sexually abusing a teenager during his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of New York.
According to CNN, McCarrick is now "one of the highest-ranking American leaders in the Catholic Church to be removed from ministry" on sexual abuse charges.
The review board for the Archdiocese of New York found the allegations against McCarrick to be credible.
McCarrick has maintained his innocence but says he accepts the church's decision.
The move comes as the Catholic Church faces heightened scrutiny over a yearslong sex abuse problem in Chile.
