A Georgia veterinarian traded in his breakfast bowl for a dog bowl. This is Graycie, a neglected dog brought in to Granite Hills Animal Care on Jan. 29. This is Dr. Andy Mathis, owner of the care center.
Graycie was in bad shape when she was first found. She was "emaciated, starved (20 pounds) dehydrated, hypothermic (temp of 95), anemic and with a vaginal prolapse."
Dr. Mathis said he was afraid he'd have to euthanize her and asked for advice on Facebook. Graycie got the medical care (and love) she needed and was improving, but she was barely eating.
That's when Mathis got inside the cage, started eating his breakfast with Graycie and comforted her. Slowly but surely, Graycie started eating.
Mathis posted the video on Facebook, and it went viral. It got more than 6.7 million views, 61,000 likes and 4,300 comments in under a week.
Graycie's gained several pounds since being brought in and has moved in "with the big girls." Mathis says she'll hopefully be physically and emotionally ready for adoption soon.
