At least nine people are dead following a weekend storm system that unleashed severe weather across the country.

A mix of unseasonable warm temperatures, ice storms and rare December tornadoes wreaked havoc on holiday travel and left thousands without power. (Via WWJ-TV)

Victims include five people who died in flooding in Kentucky, and a woman killed in a tornado in Arkansas. Two twisters touched down in the state Saturday. (Via News 12 Long Island, Baxter Bulletin

In Oklahoma, the icy road conditions were to blame for three fatal traffic accidents. (Via MSNBC)

Meanwhile, airport terminals nationwide resembled campsites. (Via Fox News)

Aviation tracking website FlightAware.com reports more than 700 flights were canceled Sunday evening, and more than 11,000 were delayed.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford weighed in:

Oddly enough, the Mid-Atlantic region saw record high temperatures in Philadelphia and New York City, but icy blasts through parts of New England.

Despite the wild weather, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service told USA Today most of the country can expect "pretty good" weather just in time for Christmas.
