The Houston area is hoping new measures will prevent a repeat of devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Residents marked the one-year anniversary of Harvey's landfall by voting on a $2.5 billion bond measure that would fund the creation of new bayous and extend existing ones, improve early flood warning systems and build new stormwater basins, among other things.
Harvey caused an estimated $125 billion in damage in Texas and left 68 people dead. If passed, the new bond measure would slightly increase property taxes in Harris County, where Houston is located.
