Tunisia's prime minister has banned the niqab in government buildings and public institutions, citing security concerns.
The decision comes after two suicide bombing attacks in the country's capital last week. Those attacks killed two people — a police officer and a civilian. After the coordinator of the attacks was caught rumors spread he was wearing a niqab, although police deny that was the case.
The face-covering garment is worn by some Muslim women as a way of dressing modestly and as a symbol of their faith.
Tunisia joins a growing number of countries banning the niqab for security reasons. Activists are asking that the country's prime minister ensure the ban is only temporary.
