Authorities in Australia say they're treating a knife attack in Melbourne as an act of terrorism.

The Victoria police chief commissioner told reporters Friday the attacker was known to police and federal intelligence authorities. He has yet to be publicly identified.

Authorities say the suspect fatally stabbed one person and injured two others on a street in Melbourne Friday. He reportedly emerged from a truck that was on fire. Police shot the suspect, and he later died at the hospital.

Both people who were injured in the attack were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say they don't believe there's an ongoing threat at this stage.
