People in Australia moved quickly to rescue a number of short-finned pilot whales that managed to survive a mass stranding on a beach in the western part of the continent.
Western Australia's Parks and Wildlife Service said that out of the 150 whales found stranded Friday morning local time, only six were still alive and had been returned to the water.
Rocky terrain and the sheer number of whales forced officials to use boats to move the surviving whales off the beach.
Authorities say it's not uncommon for short-finned pilot whales to get stranded in large groups.
