Lawmakers in the European Union are calling on member countries to impose a group-wide arms embargo on Saudi Arabia in response to Jamal Khashoggi's death.

The European Parliament announced Thursday it had adopted a resolution that condemns the killing of the Saudi journalist and stresses the need for an EU-wide arms embargo on the Persian Gulf nation.

The lawmakers also called for an international investigation into his death and for those responsible to be brought to justice.

Several EU countries are already weighing their arms sales to Saudi Arabia. And earlier this week, Germany decided to halt future arms deals with Saudi Arabia.

But nations like Britain and Spain have decided not to freeze its Saudi weapons sales, despite calls to stop conducting business with the country over Khashoggi's death.
