At least 13 people have died in flash flooding in southern France.

CNN reports five people are seriously injured and one person is missing. 

The Aude region saw months worth of rain in just hours, according to local officials.

Authorities say 700 firefighters are responding to the flooding. Some residents had to be rescued by helicopter.

Schools have been closed, and officials are warning residents to stay off the flooded roads and remain in their homes.
