London's new 26-mile railway has been under construction for years. Now, the roughly $21.6 billion Crossrail Project is finally nearing the home stretch.
The rail's east-west Elizabeth line will start moving passengers in 2018, eventually connecting 10 brand-new stations and 30 existing ones.
The Crossrail Project released photos of some of the new stations.
The goal was to make each new stop have its own unmistakable character. Based on these renderings, it seems like the designers nailed it.
For example, the Farringdon station took its cue from the historical local blacksmith and goldsmith trades, as well as the Barbican's brutalist style of architecture.
The Elizabeth line is expected to be fully open at the end of 2019.
