British lawmakers have declared an environment and climate emergency.
On Wednesday, U.K. Parliament members backed a motion calling for the symbolic declaration, which was put forward by opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
"We have no time to waste. We are living in a climate crisis that will spiral dangerously out of control unless we take rapid and dramatic action now," Corbyn said.
Climate change has been a prevalent issue in the U.K. in recent days.
Last week, a 16-year-old Swedish student addressed lawmakers to demand more action on climate change. And protests by environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion have caused significant disruptions in London.
The U.K. is the first country in the world to declare a climate emergency.
