Ten of the 12 people who died in a plane crash in Costa Rica on Sunday were Americans.

President Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera said in a statement two Costa Rican pilots were also killed in the crash. He didn't identify any of the victims.

A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department previously confirmed "multiple U.S. citizens" died but declined to release their identities "out of respect for their families."

It's still unclear exactly what caused the small plane to go down not long after it took off. No one on board survived the crash.
