AMC is planning to open dozens of new movie theaters in Saudi Arabia after the country's 35-year ban on cinemas ended a few months ago.

The company said Wednesday it secured the first theater operating license the Saudi Ministry of Culture granted since the ban was lifted in December.

Over the next few years, AMC says it expects to open between 30 and 40 cinemas in about 15 Saudi cities. And it plans to open the first of those theaters later this month in Riyadh, the Saudi capital.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has orchestrated reforms to make some big adjustments to Saudi society.

In recent months, officials said they'd end a ban on women driving and let women attend sporting events in three major stadiums, among other cultural changes.
