Iraq's prime minister announced late Sunday that military forces are working to retake the ISIS-held city of Fallujah.
In a message shared on state TV, he reportedly instructed residents to leave the city before the operation and said security forces would ensure a safe passage.
The city of Fallujah, which is located about 40 miles west of Baghdad, has been under ISIS control since January 2014.
The announcement comes on the heels of other successful missions. Iraqi forces, backed by U.S.-led air support, recently regained territories in the Anbar province.
Securing Fallujah could put forces in a better position to retake the city of Mosul — Iraq's second largest city that is still under ISIS control.
