At least one person is dead after a high-rise building in Sao Paulo, Brazil, caught fire and partially collapsed.

The Sao Paulo Fire Department said 160 firefighters were needed to battle the blaze, which started early Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for the department told CNN the flames are now under control.

The building was abandoned, but local officials say it was occasionally inhabited by squatters.

Authorities told local media one person was killed in the fire, but that number could go up as recovery operations continue. Several others were reported missing.

The cause of the massive blaze is still unknown.
