Guatemalan law enforcement arrested the country's former president amid a corruption investigation dealing with an order for buses.
Álvaro Colom was president from 2008 to 2012. In that time, he ordered more than 3,000 buses for a public transport system. Fewer than 500 were delivered.
Nine other former government officials were arrested as part of the same investigation. Colom's administration allegedly approved the $35 million deal without proper oversight; it's still not clear how a majority of the money was used.
Colom's presidential successor is set to stand trial for a separate corruption scheme.
