The U.K.'s foreign secretary accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of ordering a nerve gas attack against a former double agent.

Boris Johnson told reporters Friday it's "overwhelmingly likely" Putin personally ordered the attack, which left Sergei Skripal and his daughter in critical condition.

Britain previously blamed Russia for the March 4 attack. But this is the first time the finger has been directly pointed at Putin.

Russia has denied any involvement. And the Kremlin isn't too happy about Johnson's comments.

A spokesperson told CNN, "Any reference or mentioning of our president is nothing else but shocking and unpardonable diplomatic misconduct."
