The 2018 Worldwide Cost of Living report is out, and no U.S. city landed in the top 10 most expensive cities.
The annual survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit put Singapore at the top of the list for the fifth year in a row, followed by Paris, Zurich and Hong Kong.
Of the top 10 cities, five of them are in Western Europe and three are in Asia. Tel Aviv, Israel, is the only Middle Eastern representative; and Sydney, Australia, rounds out the top 10.
The strength of a country's currency has a big effect on its ranking. For example, the U.S. dollar weakened in 2017, which bumped New York down to 13th. It was the highest-ranked U.S. city, followed closely by Los Angeles at No. 14.
According to the report, the cheapest city to live in is Damascus, Syria.
