World's Tallest Sunflower Requires Its Own Scaffolding

The world's largest sunflower is 30 feet tall and was grown by a German gardener. We wonder what kind of fertilizer he uses.

Thirty feet is pretty dang tall.

This Marilyn Monroe statue is 26 feet tall. Just look at how small those people look next to it.

Some of the Easter Island heads are also around that height.

So now imagine a sunflower that size. The thing is so big, it needs its own scaffolding, and it's even worthy of a world record, according to Guinness World Records

A gardener from Germany broke his own world record with a sunflower measuring 30 feet, 1 inch. Before this, he held the record three other times: in 2009, 2012 and 2013.

"I'd give that a big, green thumbs up," ABC anchor Amy Robach said.

"Yes, it's like Jack and the beanstalk," George Stephanopoulos said.

The German gardener was a bit worried about his record after a thunderstorm brought in some large hail. But the sunflower was spared.

And another plus: Sunflower seeds are pretty good for you, and we're sure this gardener has plenty.

Now, we've just gotta know: What kind of soil does that German gardener use? Or is the sun just brighter on that side of the world?
