Sen. John McCain is staying away from Capitol Hill, at least while flu season is still in full swing.

McCain's daughter Meghan McCain told Politico her father is being careful. The senator was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer last year and has undergone chemotherapy.

She said her father will likely return to Washington, D.C., at some point but he's waiting out this "deadly, crazy" flu season because his immune system is down.

Meghan McCain said the cancer has taken a toll on her father's physical health but he is doing well.
