Groups Sue Over Trump Cuts To Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program

Planned Parenthood and others argue the Trump administration "unlawfully terminated" the program.

Planned Parenthood, alongside other organizations and a Washington state county, sued the Trump administration Thursday over its decision to defund a national teen pregnancy program.

Back in July, the Department of Health and Human Services abruptly cut more than $200 million in grants from the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program.

The Obama-era initiative funds organizations focused on preventing teen pregnancy in the U.S.

The plaintiffs filed four separate lawsuits in federal courts in Maryland, Washington state and the District of Columbia. They allege the Trump administration "unlawfully terminated" the grants and argue ending the program will deprive hundreds of thousands of teenagers of education and information they need to make decisions about their health.

The groups want the funding to be reinstated. The Department of Health and Human Services hadn't commented on the litigation as of Friday morning.
