Salt Lake City says it wants to host another Winter Olympics.

The city announced its intentions to bid for the 2030 Winter Games on Wednesday after its Olympic exploratory committee released a hefty report on how Utah could pull off the event for just $1.35 billion.

That's a pretty good deal, considering Russia coughed up an estimated $50 billion for the 2014 Games in Sochi.

As Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said Wednesday, "We are in a great, tremendous position to host the Winter Olympics again. ... We did it once; we can certainly do it twice."

But Salt Lake City could face some competition — including from Calgary, Canada; Denver; and Stockholm.

Salt Lake City's announcement came just before the 2018 Winter Olympics are set to kick off in South Korea. The opening ceremony will take place Friday.
