Hundreds of people are either dead or missing after a massive mudslide devastated areas just outside Sierra Leone's capital.
According to the Red Cross, more than 300 people were killed near Freetown when a rain-soaked hillside collapsed early Monday local time. Authorities say they expect the death toll to rise.
Rescue workers and volunteers continued to search for victims in the mud and debris Tuesday.

But so far, they've uncovered more bodies than survivors. A government official said the hospital mortuary has been overloaded with the dead.
The rainy season in Sierra Leone can last up to eight months out of the year. This year has been abnormally wet for the Freetown area.
Meteorologists with The Weather Channel say throughout the past 30 days, the region has been drenched with nearly 20 inches more rain than average.
