A federal grand jury indicted the captain of a duck boat that capsized on a Missouri lake in July, killing 17 people.

The Ride the Ducks boat sank on Table Rock Lake near Branson during a storm.

The 17-count indictment alleges duck boat captain Kenneth McKee failed to enforce safety precautions, which resulted in the loss of life.

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri said during a press conference Thursday that McKee didn't properly assess the weather conditions before the ride, didn't raise the boat's curtains as the vessel took on water and didn't make riders wear life vests.

McKee could face a 10-year prison sentence and $250,000 fine on each count if he's convicted.
