On Monday, the U.S. Department of Defense identified the American soldier killed in a terror attack the day before.
Twenty-three-year-old Army Specialist Henry J. Mayfield Jr. was killed in an attack in Manda Bay, Kenya, on Jan. 5.
Islamic militant group Al-Shabab, which is linked to Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack, according to U.S. Africa Command. The event is under investigation.
Two DOD contractors were killed in the attack as well, and two other members of the department were injured.
Mayfield was from Evergreen Park, Illinois. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment, 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
