Spain has a new Socialist government and a record number of women in its cabinet.

King Felipe VI swore in the new government, which is made up of 11 women ministers and six men.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez named the groundbreaking cabinet Wednesday, just a few days after he took office.

Sanchez's predecessor, Mariano Rajoy, was forced from the position last week by a no-confidence vote following scandals within his Popular Party.

This is the first time Spain has had a woman-dominated cabinet since the 1970s, when the country returned to a democratic system.
