Is Policing Racially Biased?

Michael Brown. Eric Garner. Philando Castile. They're just some of the African-American men whose police-involved deaths have grabbed the attention of the nation and world over the past few years. 

Their deaths and others have raised the question: Are modern policing practices inherently biased?

In the latest Intelligence Squared U.S. debate, four experts debated the motion, "Policing is racially biased."

The team arguing for the motion was comprised of Gloria Browne-Marshall, associate professor of constitutional law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a former civil rights attorney, and Marq Claxton, the director of public relations and public affairs for the Black Law Enforcement Alliance and a retired New York police detective.

Arguing against the motion were Heather Mac Donald, a Thomas W. Smith Fellow at the Manhattan Institute and author of "The War on Cops," and Harry Stern, an attorney with Rains Lucia Stern and a former police officer.
